Emergency Contraception

If you have had unprotected sex (sex without using contraception) or think your contraception might have failed, you can use emergency contraception.

It is important that you access Emergency Contraception as soon as possible after unprotected sex or contraception failure (e.g. split condom)
There are different types of emergency contraception available:

  • Emergency contraceptive pill, Levonelle
  • Emergency contraceptive pill, ellaOne
  • Emergency intrauterine device (IUD)

Emergency contraception can be very effective especially if you have an IUD fitted or if the emergency contraceptive pill is taken soon after sex.

Emergency contraception is available from our clinics please contact: 0300 1234 154.

Some community pharmacies and GPs also offer emergency hormonal contraception (EHC).

For more information and to find a free service offering EHC near you visit: – PLEASE NOTE that free EHC from pharmacies is not available in the Blackpool area.  Please contact 0300 1234 154 for advice.
