At our Blackpool site only, we offer a vasectomy service. To access the service you need to be referred by your General Practitioner although in some circumstances we can take referrals from other Consultants. The procedure involves two appointments, the first for pre-operative counselling and the second for the surgery itself. We are only able to offer the service to men who are eligible to have the surgery performed under local anaesthetic (this means you would be awake but have an anaesthetic locally into the area being operated on). If you think you would need a general anaesthetic then we would advise that you speak to your GP.

Following the operation you need to use alternative contraception until the sperm left in the tubes have cleared.
